Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is based on the old traditional practice of asanas (poses). Ha means Sun and Tha means Moon in Sanskrit and it relates to the heating and cooling sequence of poses (asana) and various breathwork. Through the practice of poses and breathwork, students will develop increased flexibility and strength, improved posture and balance, and mind, body, and breath awareness. This practice will also help students release stress and learn relaxation techniques to find inner peace and harmony of mind, body, and spirit. Beginner and Intermediate level classes are offered in Hatha Yoga. Please scroll down the page for information on beginner and intermediate level classes. Kripalu Yoga
Kripalu Yoga is a meditative style of Hatha Yoga where asanas (poses), stretches, breathwork, meditation, and relaxation, are practiced slowly and mindfully with the focus on the breath and looking inward. As you advance in this class, you practice flowing from one pose into another while following your body’s wisdom of movement and breath, and you will hold the poses for longer periods of time while focusing inwards and developing awareness on how you “feel” in each pose and with each breath. Alignment and posture are important aspects of Kripalu Yoga. Beginner and Intermediate level classes are offered in Kripalu Yoga. Gentle Hatha Yoga
Gentle Hatha Yoga is based on the old traditional practice of asanas (poses). In this class, yoga poses are modified to meet individual needs. Modified yoga poses and stretches are practiced such that the students experience the same benefits as those performing the same poses and stretches without modifications. This class is small and chairs and props are used to support and assist students in their yoga practice. As well, the teacher provides individual assistance where necessary. This class is for those who have difficult physical challenges such as multiple sclerosis, severe arthritis, chronic pain, injuries, and other health issues that limits mobility. With the use of props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, belts, sand bags, and eye bags while practicing restful poses, the mind becomes still, the central nervous system calms down, and the body is supported to deeply rest and relax thereby bringing balance, calmness, rejuvenated energy, and a feeling of well being to mind, body, and spirit. This class is suitable for all ages and ability and it is recommended for those experiencing chronic stress and fatigue, depression, anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. It is also recommended for those recovering from surgery, illness, and injury as well as those facing major life changes. Please bring an eye bag. Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra which means “yogic sleep” is a relaxation/meditation technique that brings you to a deep state of relaxation while you are in a relaxed state of awareness. In this class, you will do about ten minutes of yoga stretches to limber the body and then you will be instructed to lie down and use bolsters, blankets, and eye bags if needed to make yourself comfortable. For the remainder of the class, the teacher will use a soothing voice to guide you through visualizations to systematically relax each part of your physical, emotional, and mental body in order to bring you to a deep relaxed and rested state of being.
Yoga Nidra enables you to gain deep rest so that you can feel recharged and rejuvenated. 60 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as 8 hours of deep sleep.
